I love and hate New York City. I always try to find things to do in NYC that aren’t over-hyped tourist spots or ridiculously expensive and thus I’m excited to share this with you. I’ve written about unique things to do in NYC and I’ve written about places to go and not to go in NYC on the blog but today I have another unique thing to do in NYC and if you’re down in New York (especially if you love photos, crafting, blogging or just generally aesthetically pleasing places), you must check out the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop.
I was really excited to attend the grand opening of this shop on July 22. This shop is nestled in the heart of the Flatiron district, so it’s right near 5th Avenue, the famous Flatiron building and literally right near Madison Square Park. While you’re hitting up those popular places, the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop is a must visit location. I mean, if you want to see the iconic Flatiron building, why not just wander over a block and check this place out?
To start the Grand Opening we took a branded Pedicab to the event for free. These Pedicabs were really cute and (surprisingly) refreshing and fun. They were also, as I said, free. I’ve never been on a Pedicab before but it was a fun experience. Since my boyfriend and I were among the first few to arrive via Pedicab we were welcomed by cheers and tons of camera flashes. I felt pretty famous and super cool about that.
A lot of super friendly employees were outside snapping Fujifilm instax® mini photos for free outside and this made me so happy because these tiny photos definitely fit in with my ~aesthetic~. I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up buying one of those colorful little instax® cameras by the end of the summer because the cuteness of the product and the happiness this miniature photos bring me are out of this world.
First of all, this place is so aesthetically pleasing. It’s got the hanging photographs, black and white, wood, chalk-style art and decorations that look straight out of a Pinterest board. It looks so cozy and it’s the perfect way to escape the heat, take cute photos and snag some prints. There’s nothing more that I love than being in air conditioning on a hot summer day AND indulging my narcissistic desires to have photos of myself.
My first thought when I walked into the shop was “This is my aesthetic. This is it.” Anyone who knows me knows that I use the word “aesthetic” to the point where it’s lost all value, but this shop definitely added the value right back. The workshop area was full of seating, pretty patterned washi tape, cameras and gorgeous wall art like this:
The shop is part print center, part retail store and part interactive workshop. My favorite part was the photobooth. I went in with my boyfriend and got some cute souvenirs. We totally messed up the photobooth on the last frame. A cute kiss on the cheek picture became a derp photo real fast, but let’s just label it “quirky” and move on. The polaroid taken outside of the shop turned out perfectly, though!
Another great feature is the fact that you can get prints done automatically from your cell phone. I got some 4 x 4 photos along with an 8 x 10 photo collage and shadow box frame for $8! I loved having my pictures printed right before my eyes and being able to print them from my phone was so convenient. I hate getting pictures printed because I’m too lazy to transfer them to a USB or memory card and I’m too lazy to wait a few hours to pick them up, so this was a really nice feature. P.S. These photos are perfect dorm decor, just sayin’!
Can we talk discuss how adorable and trendy the branding throughout the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop is? The bag is kraft paper dipped in hot pink and the logo and designs are so simplistic and cozy. This place is every blogger’s dream because getting a perfect, aesthetically pleasing shot is really easy.
The shop also offers workshops (and free coffee!) so it’s a nice way to take a break from the bustling city to work on some DIYs and other fun projects. How cute is this signage?
All in all, this place is a great place is one of many fun things to do in NYC. The location is actually only a few blocks from my internship and I plan on popping in a few times before it ends.
Also, the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop is near The Melt Shop which is this delicious grilled cheese shop where we grabbed dinner. I got the Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese and a lemonade and while I couldn’t finish it, it was definitely the best grilled cheese I’ve ever consumed.
On opening weekend there was also an interactive area where you could get free polaroids and pictures inside of a Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop frame. Definitely “Like” Wonder Photo Shop NYC on Facebook to stay in the loop about fun giveaways and workshops. I’m excited to see which workshops they have to offer because my photography skills really need some work because they sort of don’t exist at all. Photography is me seeking out the perfect selfie lighting and pretending I know how to edit it.
What are some of your favorite things to do in NYC? Will you be checking out the Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop?
I will check this place out FOR SURE! Those pictures are so cute and would def look great as dorm decor! And OMG it’s also close to my internship!! I’m in love with DIYs so I can’t wait to try some workshops!
