Colorful Jewel Tone Makeup + The Perfect Matte Face ft. Rimmel // ew & pt

So as you can see from the hashtag, this post is sponsored. As a huge fan of drugstore cosmetics and Rimmel in particular, I was so psyched to partner up with this brand. I’ve mentioned Rimmel and my obsession with the matte look too many times before on the blog and today I’m here to discuss two of my favorite things: matte makeup products and colorful eye makeup

In terms of the dewy v. matte foundation finish debate, I’m 10000% team matte. Maybe I’m afraid of the dewy look bordering on oily and shiny or perhaps I like to play it safe with a matte complexion. Honestly, there’s just something so elegant and wonderful about a matte face. Personally, I think colorful eye makeup that’s full of glitter is perfectly complimented by smooth, matte skin.

FACE

This look all starts with the face. I began with Rimmel Stay Matte Primer 003. I placed a few dots around my face and then blended it in. This primer helps to minimize your pores and keep your makeup matte for up to eight hours.

really love this formula because it’s like a lotion/creamy moisturizer which is unique for a primer. It’s also cool because you can wear it alone or even on top of your makeup, which is perfect for those of us who always forget to apply our primer before our foundation! By those of us I mean me almost every morning.

Next comes my Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation 100 Ivory. I use a small, SMALL amount on the back of my hand and then dot it all over my face. I then blend it with a moistened blending sponge. It’s super pigmented and has a light, mousse texture.

This formula minimizes pores without making your face feel greasy or dry. It also makes your skin feel incredibly smooth and matte and I hate the term “as soft as a baby’s bottom” because I don’t think anyone wants to be compared to a butt regardless of the age of the butt but damn, my face feels soft.

Thank goodness that this product is in a squeeze tube because I don’t know about you but the pump foundations get so gross and the foundations that you have to pour out are such a pain and waste so much product. I’m totally getting off topic here.

These are my swatches of the foundation and primer. How do people even swatch these? These swatches look pretty gross but you can really see how much coverage this foundation has and how the primer almost looks like a moisturizer.

I then set my foundation with the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. This product has been one of my holy grail products since I was a wee high school freshman just taking my first steps into the beauty world. This powder contains natural minerals and powders AND is dermatologically tested and while I’m not a dermatologist I can confirm that this powder has always been good to me and my skin while giving me a smooth, matte look. TBH, this powder isn’t totally necessary with the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer and foundation, but it definitely helps to set everything and give one last layer of smooth and matte.

Now for the brows! Since my brows are pretty thick I don’t need to do much here, I’ve used my Rimmel Brow This Way Eyebrow Kit to fill in my brows and give them a little definition using the gel, powder and tiny brushes and spooly that come in the kit.

EYES

Time for the pretty jewel tone eyes. I used the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick Crayon 001 Witness White over my lids as a primer and the shimmery white will help make my colors pop even more.

Here are swatches of the pencils I’ve used for this look. Also the light blue swatch/pencil pictured in a few photos is a product I didn’t end up using for this look but it’s there anyway in case you’re curious.

I’ve used the Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer 250 Emerald Sparkle on the inner two-thirds of my lid. I then put Rimmel Exaggerate Smoke n’ Shine Automatic Gel Liner 003 Purple Craze on the outer third of my lid and then smudged it out with the smudger sponge on the back end of the product.

In order to make the shades a little more seamless I’ve blended the shades out with a shadow brush. Even though cleaning makeup brushes is the bane of everyone’s existence and honestly most makeup brushes probably have enough bacteria and makeup gunk to create a new strain of E. Coli or something (mmm, loving that visual!), you have to clean your brush or at least wipe it off between shades. If you don’t do so, you’ll get a muddled mess.

I then used the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal 006 Deep Blue to line just below my waterline and then smudged it out with the smudgers from the back of the other pencils. I used a bit of liquid liner to add my signature wing and then the Rimmel Super Curler Mascara to top off my look. This mascara lets you skip the annoying and sometimes scary step of curling your lashes while adding lots of volume and curl.

Also for my lips I used Rimmel Exaggerate Full Color Lip Liner 070 Enchantment which is a pretty “your lips but better” pink nude to fill them in. In case you’re curious, I didn’t have to use all of these Rimmel products for this post, I just genuinely like them and love affordable makeup.

As a closing note I will say that the Rimmel Stay Matte product line is definitely not for those with really dry skin. The finish is smooth and baby soft but if you have naturally dry skin, it might cling to some dry spots on your face. The foundation also must be blended very well or can appear streaky. With that being said, it gives very nice coverage to the point that I didn’t even need concealer! I would highly recommend this product line for anyone with combination, oily or normal skin.

Afterwards I wondered how much cooler the look would be if I used the products from my eyes on my lips so I did that. Boom.
