While college is generally full of excitement, there are times when boredom takes over and you need something fresh and new to do with friends. There’s more to college than drinking and fun can occur without the consumption of alcohol. College party games are always a great way to smoothly break the ice, socialize and get to know other people.
You don’t even need to be at a party to play these games with a few friends. They’re perfect for having social fun while out and also for just hanging around with friends on a night in.
1. Truth or Dare Jenga
This requires some prep–a Jenga set and a permanent marker. With this game, you write a bunch of truths or dares on every Jenga piece before setting it up. Each time someone pulls a piece from the stack, they must do whatever it says! If you’re stumped for truth or dare ideas, Google is always a solid place to look.
Here are some examples of Truths & Dares:
- Truth: What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on?
- Dare: Call the 8th person on your Contacts and play 20 seconds of a Drake song.
- Truth: Who was the last person you kissed?
- Dare: Give someone a piggyback ride around the room.
If you don’t feel like writing on your Jenga game and thus permanently staining the pieces, you can also write on pieces of tape and then stick them to the bricks.
2. Cards Against Humanity.
This is the ever-popular one. This a great game for when you’re with a group of people you don’t know very well–bust out a deck of CAH and everyone is sure to be united and laughing together after a few rounds.
3. Paranoia
This is the kind of game that’s best played with friends! Everyone sits in a circle and the game starts by having one person whisper a question into the ear of the person to the right. This question should be a “who” question (Like, “Who do you think has the best eyes?” or “Who would you least like to be stuck in a room with for 24 hours?). The person who was asked the question answers it out loud with the name of someone in the circle and the paranoia aspect is that no one in the circle knows what the question was.
To find out what the question was, the person who was the answer can flip a coin. If it’s heads, the asker reveals the question. If it’s tails, the game continues and everyone’s left to wonder what exactly the question was! This game could get intense pretty quickly.
Here are some examples of questions:
- Who would you like to trade places with for a day?
- Who makes you laugh the hardest?
- If you had to date someone in the circle, who would it be?
- Who do you think is most likely to get arrested?
- Who do you think would make the best S.O.?
4. Would You Rather
This is an age-old game that requires just minds or a Would You Rather question list from the Internet or an App. This is one of those college party games that’s great to play with anyone–friends or new acquaintances. The best part of this game is the versatility–the questions can either be a bit freaky or relatively normal.
5. Know Your Crew
What’s something everyone has at a party? Their cell phones! This a great game to play with anyone. It’s perfect for getting to know people better or having fun with people you already know fairly well. It’s like the BuzzFeed Quiz meets the Heads Up app in the sense that you get to answer questions and try guess the answers.
You can download it for free here. I definitely suggest you give it a try. It’s a fun way to kill some time and get to know people or see how well you already know your friends. It’s also a great flirting move if you invite someone you’ve had your eye on to play with you.
I’ve already downloaded it and cajoled a bunch of my friends into playing it with me and it’s been played in my house and even backstage during my college’s theater production. It’s a fun way to have cell phones contribute to socializing rather than being the inhibitor of it.
A game that’s free, allows you to use your phone and can get as crazy as you want it to get is an A+ in my book. This app is available for iPhone and Android, so friends with all phone types can play.
