Welcome to my Halloween series! Essentially, this series will be giving you ideas for the elusive Halloween costume. Considering this year is another “Halloweekend”, college students will be needing quite a few costumes. For the sake of saving money, saving time and utilizing your closet, here is the first part in my series that gives you easy college Halloween costume ideas that can easily be recreated and modified.
For the first part in my series I present to you some solo costume ideas! Part two has group costume ideas.
The key to most college student’s costumes is wanting to look good without being basic. Namely, most girls don’t want to be a gory zombie but they don’t want to just throw on cat ears, either. These costumes give you the opportunity to be as much or as little sexy as you want while also keeping it more original than a cat.
Costume: Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation
Clothes Required: A blazer and matching skirt or slacks. A button down shirt. A pair of heels.
What to Do: If you’re not blonde, you will need a blonde wig. You should print out a voter style button that says “Knope 2012”, it can be found on Google! Cut it out and tape it to your lapel.
To make it a couples costume: Have your S.O. be Leslie’s husband, Ben Wyatt! He just needs to print out the same button and wear some business attire.
Costume: Lumberjack
Clothes Required: A flannel shirt, jeans, work boots and a beanie
To make it sexier: Unbutton your flannel a little bit or tie it so it’s shorter and shows your midriff.
To make it funnier: Get a fake stick-on mustache/beard to really get into the “lumbersexual” trend.
Costume: Lifeguard
You Will Need: A shirt/sweatshirt that says “LIFEGUARD” (which is fairly easy to find or you can DIY it), red shorts and flip flops.
To DIY it: Cut out the word “LIFEGUARD” and literally tape it to a shirt. It won’t look as nice, but who really cares anyway? If you’re craftier you can buy iron-on transfer paper and iron the letters onto a shirt.
Costume: Starbucks Frappe
You Will Need: Any white/brown/tan/pink/frappe colored dress. A large printed out Starbucks logo. A dark green headband or headband with a fake green straw attached.
To make it a group costume: Have you and all of your friends be different colored Starbucks drinks! You can each write your name on the dresses in typical Starbucks fashion. Bonus if they’re all spelled wrong.
To Take It to The Next Level: Decorate the back with those little check boxes that they use to fill out your drink orders and add “CAUTION: HOT” on the bottom. Meow.
Costume: Cowgirl
You Will Need: A cowboy hat (can be cheaply ordered online), a flannel shirt, denim shorts and boots.
To Take It To The Next Level: Print out a sheriff’s badge, cut it out and tape it (or safety pin it) to your shirt.
Costume: A Robber
You Will Need: Black pants, a black beanie, a black and white striped shirt and black felt or fabric. Make yourself an eye mask by cutting the fabric to a little larger than the height of your eyes and cutting out eye holes.
To Take It To The Next Level: Grab a brown paper bag, draw a “$” on it and have it be the money you stole. Bonus if you fill it with chocolate gold coins. It fits your costume and it’s a perfect snack!
Costume: Kylie Jenner
You Will Need: Lip liner and lipstick to overdraw your lips, false lashes, a bodycon nude skirt, crop top of your choice and optional turquoise clip-in hair extensions.
To Take It To The Next Level: Add on some fake stiletto nails. Kylie often has super sharp nails!
Costume: Army Girl
You Will Need: A Camouflage shirt, cargo pants, combat boots.
To Take It To The Next Level: Take black eyeliner or face paint and draw lines under your eyes football player style. You can also add some dog tag necklaces to accessorize the look!
