Confession: I used to be an avid makeup palette hater. That’s right, a makeup palette hater. I always ended up with palettes where I’d use a few colors and ignore the rest or have palettes that had a few nice colors and the rest of the colors were crap. Recently I’ve come across a few makeup palettes that have changed my mind. I’m talking the best makeup palettes over here.
If you’re going to spend a good chunk of change (or even under $5), you still want a great deal. You want colors you’ll actually be able to use and get your money’s worth out of, right? Without further ado here are five of the best makeup palettes that every girl should have in her beauty arsenal.
tarte x Grav3yardgirl “Swamp Queen” Eye & Cheek Palette – $45
This palette is new and it’s AMAZING. Every single color in it is wearable and it also comes with a blush, bronzer and highlight. The pigmentation is great and each shade allows you to achieve a different neutral look whether you want cool, warm or purple-toned nudes. The packaging is also gorgeous.
Too Faced Neutral Eyes – $36
This palette is my favorite palette in the world and I’m not even exaggerating. If you love neutral looks and a bit of shimmer, this palette is for you. Each shade is usable, which is great because I think most people have one palette where some shades are down to the pan and others have never been touched.
If you’re not crazy for shimmer, there’s also a matte version of this palette available. But, hey, shimmer on the inner corner of your eye makes you look more awake.
Wet N Wild’s Comfort Zone – $3
This palette is $3 if you can find it in Rite-Aid, CVS, Target, Five Below or any other local store. If you don’t have any stores near you that have it, you can also order it on Amazon for $6, which is still quite affordable.
What I love about this palette is that half of it is neutral smokey eye colors and the other half is full of neutral, earthy greens. They’re not too loud or crazy so they can easily be worn day to day.
Urban Decay Naked 2 – $54
Everyone raves about the Naked palettes. While I can’t agree that all of these palettes are home runs, the Naked 2 seems to be the most usable one of the bunch.
This palette allows you to create neutral looks but also have the option of creating a smokey eye. I don’t own this palette but I wish I did, it’s much more versatile and usable than the Naked 3. If you’re really into rosy colors and pinks, the Naked 3 might work for you but unless you’re obsessed with the rose gold look, it might not be the best investment. Naked & Naked 2 are definitely more usable.
Coastal Scents 252 Ultimate Palette– $25
If you’ve seen any of my MOTDs from back in the day, I probably most likely used this palette. There are so many shades and it’s perfect if you occasionally love to play with color. It’s incredibly affordable and has great pigmentation.
As gorgeous as they are, I don’t splurge on colorful palettes because I’m not someone who wears color every day but I love having this fairly compact palette on hand so when I do decide to get festive or play I have a lot of great options! You literally get 252 shades for $25 and this palette is almost always on sale!
