My 19th birthday was yesterday and it’s reminded me just how quickly time flies. To think that in just one year I’ll be in my twenties is absolutely insane and pretty frightening. The “teen” will be gone from the end of my age and I’ll for real sort of kind of be an actual adult. Yikes.
With that being said, I’ve comprised a list of things I hope to do before I turn the big two-oh. Some of them are a bit unlikely, but it never hurts to toss in a few big dreams, right?
This list isn’t much of a wild, must-do-ASAP list, but it’s a list of things I’d like to do eventually and there’s no time like the present. College has definitely started to shape the person I am and will likely be for a long time and I’ve been so lucky to go on so many adventures (that’s me in the treetops in the picture above!) and places in my life, I hope to continue my adventures this year, too.
1. Visit Europe.
I’m dying to visit London and other parts of Europe, it’s definitely the number one place on my travel destination list. Hopefully I’ll get to study abroad junior year, or maybe I’ll go on a trip with a friend. Who knows?
2. Get a tattoo.
A tiny but meaningful one, of course.
3. Intern at a big name company.
I’m hoping to get an internship at some place I’ve always admired like Seventeen, Buzzfeed or Teen Vogue. A girl can dream, right?
4. Complete a sponsored campaign on my blog.
While I have gotten a few freebies here and there, it’d be very amazing to be able to make real money from blogging. It’s a fun hobby but it’d be pretty sweet if it could become a business as well.
5. Improve my photography skills.
I’d love to take more photos for my blog and in order to this I’ll have to buff up my photography abilities.
6. Improve my graphic design skills.
I’ve taken up a Graphic Design Minor so hopefully it’ll pay off by the time I graduate! I’ve taught myself everything I know now, but I’d love to be able to have more advanced abilities when it comes to making graphics.
7. Visit Disney in Florida.
The first and only time I went I was so young, I feel like I’d appreciate it so much more now! I can just picture all of the photo-ops and Mickey Mouse shaped delicacies…
8. Finish Dorothy Parker’s biography.
Dorothy Parker is my absolute favorite poet and one of the best female writers, I’m in love with her work and her life is so interesting but I can’t bring myself to finish this book. I started it while I was still 18, I’m giving myself an entire year to finish this one (sort of long) book. I need to make time to read, seriously!
9. Finally finish decorating my room.
Since I’ve been dorming, my room at home has been put on the back burner. I spray painted some decor during the summer, but there’s a lot more things I want to do until my room is perfect. (IE: Cover my desk in marble contact paper, de-clutter my makeup collection).
10. Register to vote.
Recently I’ve become (somewhat) more aware of what’s going on in politics. With that being said, I still don’t totally know what’s going on. I really should register to vote, though, I ought to get that done.
11. Pet a pug.
After I got to pet a baby freakin’ pug on my 18th birthday, I’ve decided that I must pet at least one pug every year of my life from henceforward. I really like pugs…dreaming big, right?
12. Find a better way to keep track of my money.
My “finances” are currently being kept track of on the iPhone Notes app. In a note. A note. Basically I’m failing at the financial aspect of adulting.
13. Learn the ASL Alphabet.
I know a few choice words in sign language (mostly not very appropriate or useful ones), but I’d love to know the alphabet.
14. Get business cards.
I have some DIY’d business cards that my mom made but I’d love to have some super legitimate ones. Ooh, and a little business card holder, too! That’d be awesome.
15. Make a working blog schedule.
I’ll post a ton during the summer and during winter breaks, but I’ll post twice a week during the school year and it sort of works, but I think I could definitely make a better posting and social media-ing schedule if I tried.
16. Learn how to apply false lashes.
I’ve been dying to master this makeup skill for years. It’s the one beauty skill that I cannot seem to manage. It’s not a day-to-day must-have ability, but it’d be very useful to know.
17. Wear a fancy dress.
Fingers crossed there will be an occasion this year that will require me wearing something fancy or formal. If not, well, I’ll get dressed up anyway.
18. Eat some macarons.
They’re my favorite dessert and there are so many little macaron shops in the city, why haven’t I been to more?
19. Make a legitimate plan for post-graduation.
Even though I won’t be graduating college until I’m 21, it’d be for the best if I made a solid plan for after graduation, right?
This sounds like a great list! I think people sometimes forget that a bucket list doesn’t have to be big things like skydiving or swimming with dolphins (though that would be cool). I’d like to pet a pug in the next year, too! They’re so cute!
I agree, Sammi! Not everything in life needs to be life-changing and extreme, Pugs are the best; they’re so smushed and sweet! 10/10 recommend adding it to your list.
I love before-20 lists with little (and sometimes practical) things on them! Registering to vote is such a great idea, though – especially to vote in local elections!
Definitely! I love realistic lists, it makes them more realistic by far.
So many!! I got a tattoo when I first turned 18. And traveling Europe sounds great although you have so much time to do that! Sometimes it can be more fun when you’re older, but definitely wilder when you’re younger. I’m so jealous, I wish I had a blog when I was in my teens/20’s because I feel like I would be so much further now. Kudos to you to thinking of the long term!
