Say farewell to the perfection that is fall and welcome the cold winter weather. Brr! As autumn comes to a close it’s time to turn around our wardrobes and prepare for the colder months. As much as I hate giving up mid-weight jackets and lightweight shirts, I must confess my love for extra warm sweaters and fuzzy socks.
These college winter wardrobe essentials are about to make your winter fashion must more stylish and simplified. So, get ready to bundle up with these college winter wardrobe essentials!
1. Beanie
Gotta keep your melon warm, right? Beanies are perfect for staying warm or for simply making a fashion statement. If you’re torn on which color of beanie to rock, consider your hair color. Darker hair colors such as brunette or black tend to look awesome with light gray, white or colorful beanies. Lighter hair colors, such as blonde, often look best in a darker colored beanie, such as black or plum.
The best part about beanies is how inexpensive they can be–stock up! Forever 21 often has a wide selection for under $5. The adorable burgundy rust colored pom pom beanie above is from Nordstrom.
2. A Heavy jacket
A fitted, black down jacket is my winter coat of choice. While down jackets aren’t always the most stylish option, they keep you pretty damn warm. North Face is a popular choice for winter jackets because of its high quality and warmth. Invest in something toasty, especially if your college is up North or often gets hit hard when winter strikes.

3. Snow boots
These may be otherwise known as weatherproof boots. I mentioned these in 10 Pairs of Shoes Every College Girl Needs and I stand by it. Trekking through snow or hail to get to class can be a harsh and icy reality–be prepared! There are a ton of cute weatherproof snow boots that are also incredibly stylish and can pass for a normal shoe.

4. Touchscreen gloves
Gotta keep your fingers warm! My favorite gloves are those with touchscreen pads on the thumb and pointer finger. These allow you to text without having to remove your gloves. Being able to play on my phone or text while keeping my fingers warm and toasty is very important to me.
The amazing marled touchscreen gloves above are from Urban Outfitters. Isn’t that color gorgeous?
5. Boot socks
Boot socks are freaking adorable and can serve as a source of extra warmth, a fashion statement or both! There’s such a wide variety and you’re sure to find a pair in any color you’re dreaming of.

6. A warm scarf
Scarves are a perfectly stylish way to fight the wind when walking to class. A warm scarf is an absolute college winter fashion essential–be sure to get a scarf that matches well with your winter coat. My favorite combo for the season is a black coat with a red plaid scarf.
The absolutely STUNNING reversible scarf above is from Express.
7. An oversized chunky knit sweater
Everyone has to have their ultimate, go-to sweater, right? An oversized, chunky sweater is the ultimate winter companion. You can opt for a fun pattern or go with a classic solid–either way, you’re going to be damn cozy if you pair it with leggings and your fave fuzzy socks.

8. Fleece-lined leggings
Leggings are undoubtedly in every collegiate’s closet, especially for winter. In order to keep rocking the leggings trend without freezing your butt off, try fleece-lined leggings. They’re the same as your regular black pair but with an incredibly warm and toasty inside–it’s a win/win!
The cozy leggings featured above are from Kohl’s.
9. A sweater dress
A sweater dress is perfect for when you want to get a little dressed up without freezing to death. They often go perfectly with some semi-sheer tights and a great pair of knee-high boots. Bonus if you pair your adorable knit dress with a dark, vampy lipstick.
10. Cozy pajama pants
These might not ever see the light of day outside of your dorm, but they are THE college winter wardrobe essential. Nothing beats a great pair of pajama pants that you can spend the ultimate lazy day in.
Touchscreen gloves are seriously a lifesaver!
I love them, it’s so convenient when you have to be outside!
RT to all of these! I definitely need to get myself a pair of fleece-lined leggings. Sounds like heaven!

They’re absolutely adorable! The scarf would look great with a black sweater.
Have to agree that these are mostly necessary 🙂
I always have to wear sweaters during the winter months or I get too cold. 🙂

Sweaters are so comfy, but staying inside and avoiding the cold is just as comfy, haha.
I love winter. It’s a great season. So many holidays and a great occasion to change wardrobe. I usually wear winter snow boots , nice hat and warm long scarf. It’s my favorite winter clothing.
I agree! A cozy hat is always a great essential.
