I went to my first fancy beauty event and it was pretty sweet. I heard about it from a Facebook post! A girl from my college posted about her internship at the Caravan Stylist Studio and mentioned a beauty event looking to invite bloggers and beauty interns. I am currently both of those things so I messaged her and scored an invite! I also brought along my make-up obsessed friend Gab to help!
So here’s the story of a special College Girl Essentials Caravan Stylist Studio Girl In The City event and all of the ~*FREE*~ products from the swag bag! You totally want to know what they gave us and what this event was like, don’t you? Let’s do this.
Let me start with my look! I decided to “Go Green” with some green eye make-up to match my palm leaves print dress. I kept my lip quite neutral—my initial instinct to go with a bright pink lip was a big error. Note to self: vibrant lips and vibrant eyes don’t mesh.
I used so many products that I don’t have space to list, but almost the same as the products listed in my MOTD:// FOURTH OF JULY but add the highly raved about Wet N Wild Color Icon Comfort Zone Palette to the list.
My dress is from Forever 21, my crescent moon necklace was a gift and it’s from some Etsy shop, and my shoes (my babies!) are from H&M. This is my “hipster-Tumblr-inspired outfit.” Cue impromptu photoshoot outside of the building—we later realized that behind us was a cafe window and people were staring at us while they ate croissants. Nice.
Check out this sweet candid of me putting Gab’s phone in my purse from Call It Spring–stylish. I love the way the tropical leaf print mixes with the black and white stripes. I’m working on the whole mixing prints thing. How am I doing?
I also did my nails simple, last minute and white. The white is too close to my fair skin, I was hoping it would make me look tan. It made me look dead. Nice. My thumbnail has lashes (to match my blog’s new logo, yeeee!). This photo was taken on the bus—I take so many pictures in public and get so many nasty/confused looks, it’s truly fantastic.
My lovely friend Gab wore a simple and classy black and white ensemble with pops of orange in her accessories. After photos we began our journey into the event. We got a little bit lost, but eventually Gab and I made it to the Gregory Hotel NYC where the event was being hosted.
Event Tip: LEAVE WAY EARLIER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED TO. After walking up literally twelve flights of stairs, we realized we were lost and then discovered the studio was up only one flight of stairs, eleven of those flights were for nothing. Whatev.
A bunch of other beauty and fashion interns were there and we all crammed into a tiny and adorable little studio. The interns and owner of Caravan Stylist Studio told us all about the company. They work with big brands like Physician’s Formula, Vaseline and Not Your Mother’s. They also do a lot of beauty/styling for editors, bloggers and celebrities like the cast of OITNB.
It was freaking cool to be in the studio where famous editors and celebs have probably been. Next, we spent about forty five minutes learning all about the college make-up essentials, brushes and the works. A very experienced make-up artist/hair stylist and nail art artist explained it all. Truthfully, I didn’t learn anything new, but that’s because I spend the majority of my free time cramming all sorts of beauty knowledge into my skull. I did enjoy listening to all of her tips and suggestions, though. It was very informative! She had some fantastic product recommendations, I’m definitely going to try the Physician’s Formula Lash Fibre mascara she recommended.
Finally (the best part) arrived where we got giant bags of goodies. Yaaay free stuff! The bags all contained the same things (but with color/style variations). The goodies were inside of these artsy looking tote bags from Fake Bake.
This photo of our goodie bags was taken inside of a New York Public Library, BTW. Shout out to the homie who kept staring at me while I charged my Kindle and took photos of my crap. Here’s what was inside of my Caravan Stylist Studio Beauty Event swag bags:
The Color Club polish is a GORGEOUS color, it’s like a minty lime shade called “’Til The Record Stops.” Gab had a yellowish/orange/nude shade in her bag.
The “My Daily Freshness Kit” by Carefree has a small pack of pads and a tin full of mints. The bag is cute and plastic-y, Gab and I were confused and concerned that there were mints with the feminine pads.
The Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Salt Spray is raved about ALL of the time in videos and posts. I’ve been dying to try it and we got a FULL SIZE bottle! It smells really nice—I might review it soon!
The little foil packet is a Lift Lab Total Rejuvenation sample—it’s anti-aging and I have yet to open it. I usually toss all skin care samples into a drawer on my vanity and forget about them, to be honest.
Here’s some of the stuff out of the packaging:
The Fake Bake Platinum Anti-Aging Tan Lotion is HUGE. It has a nice pump and although it says it’s 2 ounces, it seems like much more. I’m very hesitant to use this on my face—I’m SO FREAKIN’ WHITE. I might try it once, just because. It has no strong scent to it, luckily, unlike almost every other tanning lotion. Gab’s bag had a travel sized Fake Bake body and tanning mitt.
The Manuka Secrets Hand Crème is a really nice size—the packaging of the bottle is really pretty, too. I’m honestly not a fan of the scent—it smells very sage-y or herbal-y. That’s just a personal preference, though, it’s very moisturizing and doesn’t get all greasy like most lotions and crèmes do. The bottle also has this packaging I’ve never seen before—inside of the cap it has a brush-like plastic tip? Hard to explain, don’t really understand.
Real talk, the Physician’s Formula Plump Potion feels like minty glue. Applying it felt like I was putting thick, sticky tar on my lips. I’m personally not a fan of lip gloss nor do I have the desire to plump my lips, so I guess the product just isn’t up my alley. This has a slight minty tingle that lasts for around twenty minutes after application. I do REALLY like the color though—I’d love to layer this with some nude lip colors.
There’s my before and after with the gloss. I don’t know if I see a difference, but apparently if you keep using it (the package says) you get long-lasting PERMANENT results. I’m afraid to use this product, I’m not fixin’ to be Kylie Jenner. In case you were curious, Gab had the clear shade in her bag, mine was called “Nude Potion”.
We also got complimentary Luna bars—seriously, the brownie caramel nut whatever one I ate was incredibly delicious. Maybe it just tasted delicious because, aside from coffee and a large iced latte, it was the only thing I’d consumed thus far in the day.
All in all, it was a really great event. The Caravan Stylist Studio is definitely something to check out—you’ve probably seen their work on your fave celebs at the red carpet already! I would definitely attend another event hosted by them and would recommend you consider doing the same.
